Soil Testing
Better Decisions
Start With Your Soil
Soil testing gives you the knowledge to apply the right nutrients, in the right pace, at the right time. It's the foundation of productive, profitable farming.
Every paddock is different. Soil testing removes the guesswork so you can make informed decisions that improve pasture performance, animal health, and long-term soil fertility.

Common Questions
About Soil Testing.
How often should i soil test?
We recommend soil testing every 2–3 years to keep track of nutrient levels and make informed fertiliser decisions. More frequent testing may be beneficial if you're making significant management changes or developing new paddocks.
When is the best time to take soil samples?
The ideal time is when soil conditions are stable and before fertiliser is applied. Sampling at the same time of year each time provides the most reliable comparison between results.
How many samples do I need?
This depends on the size and variability of your farm. As a general guide, each sample should represent a paddock or management area with similar soil type, topography and farming practices. Your Mainland Minerals representative can help determine the best sampling plan.
How long does it take to get results?
Usually around 10 working days, results will be sent to the farmer and Technical Field Advisor via email.
Can you help me take soil samples?
Absolutely. Your Mainland Minerals representative can assist with planning, collecting or organising your soil samples to ensure they're taken correctly and provide reliable results. We'll then help you interpret the results and build a nutrient plan that suits your farming goals.
