The fine particle fertiliser system was first pioneered by Mainland Minerals, over 20 years ago. The company was formed in 1988 and operated as a nationwide company, with Dr Tim Jenkins joining in 1998 to establish credible, independent soil testing and fertiliser recommendations.
In 2007 the company was split up regionally, with Mainland Minerals Southern being formed and individually owned by Gavin Keith and Murray Cockburn.
Since then we have gone from strength to strength, make improvements and innovations to our systems, and as part of the Mainland Group, are the third biggest fertiliser supplier in New Zealand!

Murray grew up on a high country sheep & beef farm in Te Anau. He attended Canterbury University graduating with a Masters in Engineering Management. He has since worked in the fields of engineering, finance, retail & exporting primary products.
Murray has a passion for working with farmers and assisting them to maximise their returns from their business.

Gavin armed himself with a Dip Ag, but with a desire to be more involved with animals ventured into a stock-buying occupation with a freezing company, and eventually combined that with farm ownership. Injury meant a change of direction and an opportunity with Mainland Minerals came along to manage the Otago-Southland area.“Changing peoples attitudes towards fertiliser became the greatest hurdle, but there are now many long-term happily involved clients using the fine particle system, very successfully. Soil health has certainly determined the importance of stock health and performance, which has always been my greatest wish and through observation has certainly proven itself over and over. Balance of nutrient is the key to moving forward”.

Raised on a South Otago sheep & beef farm, i have been with Mainland Minerals for 10 years. I'm based in Gore and work in the region up to Balclutha, West Otago and to Waikaia.
I believe we have smarter fertiliser products to maximise production and minimise environmental impact using the best of both biological and conventional regimes.
The positive feedback from clients gives me confidence in our fertiliser options. I believe healthy soils leads to healthy, productive pastures, healthy stock and a more healthy end product for consumers.

Sarah-Jane has been with Mainland Minerals for five years and over that time has covered many roles within the company from Admin & Marketing to Operations Manager, she has recently stepped into role of Central Otago fertiliser sales along with still doing the Marketing for our Company.These roles keep her busy, she is excited to be taking on the new role as the Technical Field Advisor in Central Otago and being out with clients learning the ropes.
Sarah-Jane is a welcome addition to the sales team.

Aimee is involved in all aspects of the business but day to day she manages the finance side of the business. She is always happy to answer any queries regarding your invoicing, payments or any day to day queries.
