Spring Storm Support

Spring Storm Support

5th October 2010

Mainland Minerals Southern would like to express our heartfelt condolences to all the farmers affected by the recent Spring snow storm.

Our two southern region reps spent a day each last week helping Federated Farmers and other agri-business firms to deliver food baskets and information sheets around the district.

Amanda Hellyer said what struck her was how everyone had been affected differently, with most people extremely overwhelmed by the storm. “It was amazing to talk to people that had huge stock losses, and all they were worried about were the farmers next door or the people down the road”.

In an event like this it shows the true Southland spirit of neighbours and communities helping each other out and making sure everyone is OK. “One particular farmer said he’d lost between 25-30% of lambs and was still losing them due to the on-going effects ... but, he was quick to say that there are people out there worse off than us”.

Fingers crossed that the sun will keep shining for the rest of the spring season, and if there is anything we can do to help you out at your place, just pick up the phone!
