Environment

At Mainland Minerals we firmly believe that when we work with nature, we are able to obtain better results. By bringing nature back into balance, we are able to optimise soil fertility, pasture nutrition, animal health and ensure a sustainable environment for all.

In November 2013 we were very proud to be announced as Runners-up in the Gore District Community Awards, for Contribution to the Environment.

In January 2014 we launched a three-year joint research project with Otago University, Microbiology Department. The research will be around Fine Particle Fertiliser and how its use can significantly improve soil biology, whilst having minimal environmental impact. Trial plots have been set up on farms throughout Southland and Otago to allow soil sampling and analysis to be undertaken.

On 5 June 2014 we celebrated World Environment Day, by closing our business for the day and having all staff work together on a clean-up event at Monaghans Beach on the Mataura River. We are committed to our local environment and intend to make this a yearly event.

On 31 July 2014 we were awarded as Winners of the Commercial Category of the Southland Environment Awards. The judges commented that we received the award in recognition of the work we are doing to reduce Nitrogen & Phosporus inputs on farms.

We have had organic certification with BioGro NZ for a number of years, and each year go through a strict renewal and audit ( of our products & processes) with them.

We urge farmers to really think about what they are putting into their soil,plants,animals.... and ultimately our food. We remind farmers to not just think about the environment now, but also that what they put on their farms will affect them and their families in the future.

Check out our options for fertiliser that is better for the environment, whilst lifting productivity of pastures and improving animal health and performance.
